new lettuce
varieties
Growers visiting the
Westranell Horticultural Solutions [WHS] field trials, will see a number of exciting new lettuce varieties, some with outstanding resistance to downy mildew strains.
The company's latest varieties will be on display at Clyde during April:
Where: off Clyde-Five Ways Road near Moores Road, Clyde
When: 13 to 16 April.

Jan Westra van Holthe, manager of WHS, said the varieties selected by lettuce breeder Larry Knerr, had been successfully trialled in the USA and UK and showed great promise to be competitive in the Australian market.
"We will also have a new red oak lettuce and two new baby cos lettuce varieties which we are really excited about," Mr Westra van Holthe said.
"The baby cos varieties are resistant to 25 of the 26 strains of Downy mildew and have also been selected by the largest mini-cos grower in the UK."
Growers will see a
number of new wild rocket varieties including one which has the flavour of a Wasabi radish, as well as a range of new mustards including the new red Mizuna and new Chinese cabbage varieties.
