Manual Handling

Control of Hazards Associated with Planting, Picking and Packing

A new project run by the Victorian Farm Safety Centre, will assist vegetable businesses identify and control hazards contributing to manual handling injuries in our industry.

Picking, Planting and Packing in the vegetable industry still involves many manual and repetitive tasks.

Of the 450 vegetable properties in Victoria, 33 are associated with compensation claims - which is more than 7% of our industry.

Family

The extent of compensation claims highlights the need for improved OH&S procedures with immediate and long term benefits to be gained by everyone involved.

The project is aiming for an immediate reduction in manual handling injuries, and a further reduction over three years, through on-site training and workplace improvements.
